A day I gave thanks!

My Scruffs,
We got him back in 2007! We adopted through the SafeHaven. I remember the first time I saw him. He was so ugly. Long long hair, a beard, missing teeth. I felt the urge to rescue this dog. We took him to the free vet exam they give you after three days of having him. The vet guessed he was approx 8yrs old. She said  he was going blind and would require eye drops! She said you don't want this dog! I will help you return him. By than I was in love! We kept him and he has been the best dog we have ever had. We felt that even if it was for a short time we would give him a good home. Well that was 2007. He is still with us. However more blind and now deaf. Last night we had a scare and couldn't wake him, his heart rate was low and I started crying figuring this was the end. A real eye opener as to never take anything for granted. He has no pain just old and sleeps all of the time. Eats, pees and that is pretty much it. Prefers to really be left alone. After praying for him and stirring him he came around. We just don't know how much longer we will have him. Today I count my blessings! Have a great week! Blessings Pam

  1. Shame on that vet for saying you don't want this dog!! I am appalled. BUT I am so very happy that you did not listen to him/her and have given Scruffs a loving home. Warms my heart. I will say a prayer to St. Francis for you and your fur baby. I know how difficult it is when they are older and/or ailing. Your touch, voice and love is what he needs. ((Hug)) Marsha

  3. Oh Pam,
Your post touched my heart today. We just lost our 15 year old basset hound that was blind and deaf but what a beautiful little gift she was to our family. I too felt so blessed she stayed with us as long as she did. I miss her everyday but I remember how much love and enhancement to our lives she gave. I hope your little Scruffs hangs in there with you awhile longer. What a wonderful gift you and your family are to him. Enjoy every minute with him.
